Big changes are coming to the student loan system. A new law passed in 2025 includes major changes to student loan repayment plans and other kinds of student loan help. These changes will go into effect at different times over the next two years, beginning July 1, 2026. In addition to the new law, the Department of Education is also updating and changing features on studentaid.gov. As a result of all of these changes, some of the information in the videos below may not be current. While these videos can still be a useful starting point, read our blog and visit studentaid.gov for the most current information.
