Student Loan Toolkit
The Student Loan Toolkit explains the basics of the student loan system, how to assess your own student loan situation, and your options for managing your student loan debt. It includes fillable pages where you can record your own student loan information to help you work through your situation and track your progress toward becoming debt-free. Finally, the toolkit includes information on how and when to get additional help with your student loans, as well as other useful resources.
Get Legal Help
If you need more help with your student loan issue, you may want to consider finding a lawyer who works on student loan cases. A lawyer may be able to help you find the best solution to deal with your student loan debt, including applying for cancellations or discharges, dealing with loan servicers, getting help with student loan collections, and filing for bankruptcy. Depending on your situation, you may even be able to find a lawyer to help you for free. For more information on finding a lawyer, visit our page on getting help with your student loans.
File a Complaint
You can also resolve some student loan issues, such as problems with loan servicers, applications for student loan relief, and collections issues, by filing complaints with state or federal agencies that work to protect student loan borrowers. The Department of Education Federal Student Aid Ombudsman office is a good place to start if you have problems with your federal student loans, but the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), state consumer protection agencies, and state attorney general offices can also potentially help you with your federal or private student loan issues. For information on how and which agencies to file complaints with, visit our complaint page.
